Bulk Crap Uninstaller Knowledge

App Description
Sometimes, it's hard to uninstall a specific program from your Windows. Most software titles leave traces behind. Most refers to them as "leftovers". It could be registry entries, folders, and files that might slow down your system over time. Bulk Crap Uninstaller (BCU) is an open - source solution that removes software completely.
Bulk Crap Uninstaller (also known as BCUninstaller or BCU according to the author) is created by Marcin Szeniak. It can be used by advanced users, system administrators, and anyone who needs to clean multiple programs at once.
Installation
Bulk Crap Uninstaller setup will ask you to choose between a standard or portable installation.
There's a wizard after the installation process has finished asking you a few details:
Confirm the language (the default is English - choose a different one and hit "Apply" to change it).
Uninstaller list view and certified uninstallers (I like the default option so no change here - I understand that verification can take a long time between verified uninstallers marked in green and unverified in blue).
Advanced users (again, if you're using BCU for the first time, I recommend you to leave the "System components" and "Protected uninstallers" to default settings - nothing is checked here).
Corrupted uninstallers (useful to see the invalid uninstallers marked in grey and unregistered applications in red). Again, I recommend to keep these settings by default.
Network access - Feel free to enable or disable these settings according to your own privacy or data contribution personal approach.
Finally, the last step - setup has finished.
BCU Interface
If you will open the BCU for the first time you might feel a little overwhelmed. The interface will provide you far more information than Windows' basic uninstaller - but that's the main purpose of this tool.
The interface might not be so modern as some paid competitors but it is responsive and works well which is what matters most. Nothing fancy but it is already more then enough. That’s what matters when you’re dealing with junk.
Advanced/pro users will get detailed data about each application, including setup dates, file sizes, registry keys, publisher information.
The left sidebar shows your each installed application on your system. Double click (or right-click and select properties) any program to view its properties in the right panel. This reveals installation paths, registry entries, and even helps identify malware masquerading as legitimate software.
For basic use, the process stays simple. Select unwanted software, right-click, and choose "Uninstall" or "Uninstall quietly". BCU handles the rest, running each program's official uninstaller to avoid the problems that come from blindly deleting files.
Advanced and pro users can get into much deeper details. BCU offers regex-based filtering, custom uninstall commands, and the ability to remove applications by clicking their windows or shortcuts.
The portable version runs from a USB stick - both standard and portable versions remain completely free.
Overview of Features
Functions | Description |
---|---|
Application Detection | Find registered apps, hidden or protected software, portable programs, Windows Store apps, Steam/Oculus games, Windows Updates, and Chocolatey packages |
Batch Uninstall | Removes multiple applications in one go with minimal user input |
Force Removal | Deletes stubborn software that resists normal uninstallation |
Leftover Cleanup | Scans for and removes files, folders, and registry entries left behind |
Silent Uninstall | Quietly removes software that don't support silent mode |
Startup Manager | Controls which program launch at Windows startup |
Command Line Interface | Automates uninstallation based on custom conditions |
Certificate Verification | Checks uninstaller authenticity |
Export Options | Saves application lists in various formats |
Multi-language Support | Available in a dozen of languages including English, French, German, Spanish |
I would add that startup is instant. Performance is great even with a hundred programs listed. It also launches background processes like scans with minimal delay, and results are sorted logically without slowing down your workflow.
Just in case you're wondering how it lines up against its five most mentioned alternatives, I made a quick comparison table.
Software | Open Source | Batch Uninstall | Leftover Scan | Portable Version | Silent Mode |

Finally
I recall that the first software I discovered was Revo Uninstaller, and I think I also used CCleaner back in the day. I don't think, Bulk Crap Uninstaller even existed back then.
BCU is free and clean. It doesn’t track your activity or use telemetry. It has more features than some paid alternatives. Updates are regular. Development is also active. Support is community-driven, and the documentation is clear so I see no reason why you would want to stick with a paid alternative.
So, if you're looking for the best uninstaller tool - save your time. Bulk Crap Uninstaller is the "Swiss Army knife" of Windows uninstallers - and it won't cost you a cent.
