App Description
MP4Joiner is part of MP4Tools, a free collection of video tools created by Alex Thüring. The main purpose of this tool: it allows you to join multiple MP4 files into single videos with no need to re-encode content. It is great if you want to do some video merging without losing the video quality or get lost in a complicated interface.
MP4Joiner Features
Feature | Description |
---|---|
Lossless join | You can merge MP4 files: no re-encoding needed or quality reduction. |
Cross-platform support | It will run all major operating systems such as Windows, Mac and Linux. |
Drag and drop interface | You can drop files directly in the interface. |
Fast processing | You can complete merges fast thanks to the no re-encoding. |
Audio options | You can specify audio sample rate and bitrate for re-encoding when you need this. |
Simple operation | You select files, arrange order and click join and that's it. |
Multiple language support | You get all popular languages and some others. |
MP4 format focus | You work specifically with MP4 files this result in some extra speed. |
Order adjustment | You can rearrange the file sequence before joining process. |
Batch capabilities | You can process multiple joining operations. |
MP4Joiner Interface
It is one of the easiest and cleanest interface to use.
When you open MP4Joiner there is a small window that allows you to add your video: "Add Video" button with a green (+) plus icon. You have two options: click (+) this to import MP4 files or drag them directly onto the interface.
If you added some MP4 files, you will see a list with filenames and basic information.
If you want to reorder your files before joining - look on the right side - there are two arrow buttons that allows you to reorder files before joining.
Please note: The file order is important because the final video plays files in the sequence you arrange them.
The "Options" button might be the only one who looks a little confusing if this is the first time you use MP4Joiner. It allows audio adjustments when re-encoding is necessary. You can set sample rates and bitrates for specific output requirements. I think this is more for the advanced users and the most people will use the default lossless mode that preserves original audio settings.
After you finished arranging files, you need to click the "Join" button and choose where to save (an output folder). MP4Joiner will process files quickly since it copies video streams rather than re-encoding them.
Another note: The time to finish the job depends on how large are the files you loaded rather than video length or complexity.
You will receive some error messages if you attempt joining incompatible files. The app works best with MP4 files that share similar codecs and parameters. If the files have different resolutions and frame rates you will run into trouble; it might require re-encoding options.
That's the whole interface. Minimal and only a few functions you need for joining videos. There are no extra-complicated advanced editing tools. I honestly think this has to be one of the easiest software to use if you need to merge MP4 files. If you need more options, I made a quick alternative list.
Alternatives
Based on my research, here are the MP4Joiner alternatives:
Name | Free or Paid | The main difference |
---|---|---|
VideoProc Converter AI | Paid | It has support for multiple formats with hardware acceleration |
FFmpeg | Free | Probably the most popular command-line tool with advanced options but also a major learning curve |
VLC Media Player | Free | The most popular media player but also with a built-in joining function plus some media playback features |
Free Video Joiner | Free | It can handle more video formats, not just MP4 - you can try this if you want some extra formats |
Clideo | Free/Paid | If you like the online alternatives try this - currently it has 500MB file size limit |
Final Conclusion
As I said, MP4Joiner can deliver fast video merging without any quality loss when you need a simple tool to use. You can use it to perform MP4 joining across Windows, Mac and Linux in minutes. While there are a few, more advanced alternatives it doesn't make sense to waste your time if all you want to do is to merge MP4 files.
