App Description

MyPhoneExplorer is a free phone manager application, quite helpful for people who want to control (and have control over their data) their phones from a computer. It is an alternative to Phone Link and other similar apps.

You can use MyPhoneExplorer to establish a connection with your phone in multiple ways through USB cable (probably the most popular options) or via a wireless network (also popular), via Bluetooth or even infrared technology. So, there are plenty of ways to pair your phone.

After you connect your phone, MyPhoneExplorer gives you access to many features (check the features list in the section below) such as data backup, file browsing, and organising personal info. It works on all Microsoft Windows releases in both ways: as a portable or as an installer package. Unfortunately, there is no Linux version available but if you use Linux you can can try running this program with Wine (tested with Ubuntu Linux distributions).

Main Functions

  • synchronise your phone data with desktop programs like Microsoft Outlook (including Express version, supports 64-bit Outlook since 2020), Mozilla Thunderbird, Betterbird, Seamonkey, Cardbook addon, Lotus Notes, Tobit David, Google Mail, Fritz!Box and similar applications.

  • synchronise calendar information with Microsoft Cloud/Outlook (new feature in 2025), Windows Calendar, Rainlendar, Google Calendar and network calendars.

  • synchronise contacts and notes with vCard/vNote formats (local files or remote server storage)

  • synchronise using program's internal database (lets you sync multiple phones to each other)

  • synchronise multiple devices between themselves

  • two-way file synchronisation between phone and computer, includes folder structure sync with high customisation options.

  • devices running Android 5 (Lollipop) or later: mirror your phone screen to PC display, connection works over Wi-Fi as well, remote control function available through USB cable.

  • works with current Windows releases and recent Outlook versions, compatibility improved over years.

  • image synchronisation: transfers only recent pictures from mobile device (completely rewritten in 2021, much faster performance now).

  • Barcode and NFC scanner: use your smartphone as scanner tool for the PC (added in 2025).

  • remote keyboard function: type text on your phone using regular PC keyboard.

  • adjust phone time using atomic clock servers.

  • improved file manager (completely rewritten in 2019, much faster on large folders, includes automatic preview for images and videos, thumbnail view mode, fullscreen option available, drag and drop support).

  • manage and edit profiles, text messages (SMS and MMS support added in 2020), storage information, device monitoring, recent calls with Dual-SIM card indicator, call management from PC, automated picture sync, generate backups through Wi-Fi, USB cable or Bluetooth connection.

  • SMS Scheduler feature: send text messages with time delay (added in 2021).

  • desktop notifications: view phone notifications on your computer screen (can be customised).

  • Dual-SIM support: program shows which SIM card was used for calls and messages, works for dialling and SMS delivery.

  • contact and appointment duplicate search tool (added in 2022).

  • favourites bar: put any feature you need into quick access section (added in 2022).

  • QR code connection: new connection method through scanning code (added in 2022).

  • calendar improvements: drag and drop support, autocomplete based on existing appointments, better display with appointment colours in month view and timeline, repeating tasks support.

  • works with an extensive collection of mobile phones from Sony Ericsson and devices that run Android 1.6 or later releases (includes adaptations for Android 6, 9, 10 and newer versions, compatibility with Huawei devices without Google services).

  • restrictions exist only for budget phones without PC connection capability and older Symbian devices (like W950i, W960i, G700, G900, P1i, M600i) that need PC Suite installed beforehand and work only via USB cable (other connection types not supported).

MyPhoneExplorer Review

The interface is a little old (like many apps I reviewed on dAppCDN) but again, who cares? As long as the app is working great - I choose functionality over shinny things.

So, install MyPhoneExplorer, attach your phone (I recommend the USB cable) and you will have access to many features such as:

  • write SMS texts quickly from the software window using your PC keyboard (comes in handy when you must send multiple messages to relatives, friends, customers or work contacts, SMS scheduler lets you send them with time delay now),

  • organise and change calendar events with drag and drop function, reminders or notifications, duplicate search helps find and merge identical entries,

  • transfer files from phone storage to computer hard drive (pictures get synced much faster now, file browser was completely rewritten and handles large folders better),

  • mirror your phone screen to desktop and control it remotely through USB connection, use barcode and NFC scanner function to scan codes for your PC,

  • backup your phone information with the backup wizard and restore it later, local calendars get restored as well,

  • view desktop notifications from your phone, accept and handle calls directly from your computer,

  • manage multiple phones using internal sync database, Dual-SIM devices show which card was used for each action.

For a brief summary, the biggest benefits are simplicity (easy to understand interface with many improvements), performance (file operations much faster, photo sync rewritten, Outlook 64-bit access improved) and data backup (copying information from mobile to PC) plus a safe and secure program to install that works locally, after all, nobody wants suspicious software copying contact lists or private information from their device through third-party servers.

The developer keeps adding new functions regularly (favourites bar in 2022, barcode scanner in 2025, better Thunderbird sync, repeating tasks support and many more) which shows active development.

For example, the connection process got simpler over time, you can use QR code scanning method now, phone wakes up automatically from standby when you connect through Wi-Fi. The favourites bar lets you place most used features in quick access section. Contact pictures sync in full resolution, calendar display looks better with appointment colours and timeline view.

If you have an Android smartphone, MyPhoneExplorer is a must-have app because it works as a bridge, creating a connection layer between your mobile device and desktop computer. It received a lot of positive reviews and high ratings over time and the author, Mr. Franz Josef Wechselberger continues updating this program regularly with new features.

I tested other free programs but never discovered a superior alternative to MyPhoneExplorer. I would hesitate to recommend them due to many apps being shady (I personally think they were created to steal/sniff data). Yes, there are other trustworthy alternatives such as Phone Link BUT what makes this software special is that it works completely locally without using any third-party servers, your data stays on your device and doesn't go through cloud services.

Finally, I remember when MyPhoneExplorer stopped using bundled installers years ago - the software is completely clean now (for over a decade!). So, PLEASE CONSIDER a donation to support the developer.
